Designing the first Birth Center in Greece

The creation of the first Birth Center in Greece was both a unique challenge and a rare opportunity. The aim was to design a space that would host one of the most defining moments in the life of every family: the birth of a child.
Our goal was to create a space that is warm, safe, and welcoming. A place that embraces everyone who enters it. A setting where expertise and safety meet the comfort and coziness  of home. We wanted every woman and every family to feel protected, yet free to experience this moment with dignity and care.

Accessibility as a condition of care

From the very beginning, it was clear that the Birth Center had to be accessible and barrier-free for everyone. The site itself posed challenges, which led us to shape a new “topography” in order to provide a technical solution.
By creating an elevated green platform, we eliminated staircases and ensured smooth, unobstructed access for all. Beyond circulation, this landscape element also acts as a living filter that shields the building from the noise of the city, offering a transitional zone between the public and the private.

When concrete becomes a veil — a façade that protects, breathes, and illuminates

The architectural identity of the building is defined by its façade. Made of GRC (glass-fiber reinforced concrete), the façade was designed as a thin “veil” wrapping the building, creating a filter between inside and outside. More than an aesthetic choice, it became a design tool to solve demanding challenges.
This new skin ensured visual privacy in the birthing rooms while still allowing natural light to enter. On a technical level, it created a concealed intermediate space where networks and infrastructure could be integrated without interfering with the building’s interiors.
The result is a façade that breathes and gives the building a new architectural character: contemporary, protective, and welcoming.
